Just finished a round of dacogen 5 days ago. Began taking hydroxyurea (hydrea)500 mg twice a day today. White count at 4,000 and platelets at 21,000. Can't find that Hydrea is used to treat AML. Doc trying to lower white count with Hydrea. Is this acceptable form of treatment?

Hydrea is used mainly to treat chronic myeloid leukaemia.

"... Significant tumor response to Hydroxyurea capsules, USP has been demonstrated in melanoma, resistant chronic myelocytic leukemia, and recurrent, metastatic, or inoperable carcinoma of the ovary."
