As far as the opioid ingredient, hydrocodone, they are exactly the same. The VicodinES just has more acetaminophen. You probably wont notice any difference. It sounds like you are developing tolerance from being on the drug for so many years. It may help to try to decrease the drug for a bit or to rotate to a different drug for a while if your Dr is amiable to that option. You might try Tramadol or oxycodone. It may also help if he would add a muscle relaxer like Flexeril, Baclofen, Zanaflex or Soma to your regimen (if you arent already on one) especially if he is not willing to change you over to a stronger drug.

Ya I have been on soma for 6 yrs also and still on it. I have to take it the same time I take the pain pill or neither will work at all. I get some relief but its the same as bein on vicodin. Tramadol did not help me at all!! My doc said she was goin to give me norco then I picked it up and it was lortab 7.5. Is norco and lortab the same thing?? Im so confused!
Yes, Norco, Lortab, Vicodin are all the same thing... you have to look at the numbers. I am on Norco 10/325. Because of the dangers of acetaminophen on your liver, try to get the lowest on that.
I use Norco only when I have to... as a breakthrough med. I take Soma at night so I can sleep.
Hot baths with epsom salts are a good non-drug way to relax your muscles before bed and will help you cut back on the drugs. Then you can reduce your resistence of the therapeutic effects of hydrocodone and soma.
I have been on them for several years too. I have FM, OA, RA, migraines, DDD, tendinitis, bursitis, ankylosing spondylitis, things like that.
Hope I have helped.
