... I'm 17 years old and it runs in my family. I started taking armour thyroid and I have not noticed a difference. I'm tired all the time, can't lose weight even though i'm active and eat healthy, and find myself withdrawing from my friends and family. I just want to feel like a normal teen again. Any advice on how I can manage my hypothyroidism and feel better?
About three weeks ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. How long does it take to notice changes?

You will feel better once they get you regulated and get your blood levels where they are supposed to be. This can take some trial and error so be patient. In the meantime just try to eat a balanced diet, drink plenty of fluids and try to get at least 8 hours sleep every night.

Hi Katie,
When I found out I was Hypothyroid I was put on Synthroid. It took awhile to feel better. It can take 4 to 6 weeks weeks to start balancing the thyroid. Even then you might need to change your mg of your meds to adjust to what you need. Try to continue to eat, sleep and exercise. Don't overdue any of these. It just takes patience. You will see you will feel better.
Take care,

I posted this elsewhere - but it looked like the comments are really old! I have chronic lyme and have been on abx for about years! This disease messes with your adrenals and thyroid really bad! My numbers are always off!
I am on Acella .5 mg's for about 4 months now. My hair is falling out and my skin is dry and my eyesight is horrible! Dry eyes! I am not overweight however. My fatigue is so bad I can't get up until the afternoon! And I am so tired by 6 or 7 PM I can barely function!
Does anyone think T3/cytomel would help with this? I have sore joints as well!
Also - does anyone think I should have my Acella upped? My doc tells me to take it in halves! Really hard to bite that little pill in half! Ludicrous!
Please help!

Hi Katie,
I'm not on your meds it's hard for me to help you much. I would let your doctor know how you are feeling so he can adjust your meds accordingly. I would try to keep a schedule as much as you can on going to bed at night and getting up with a nap in the afternoon. Sometimes if you sleep too much you stay tired all the time. if you need to cut your pills in half you can get a pill cuter at the pharmacy. I use it all the time. Hope you feel better soon!
