Any thoughts on that? Side effects? My mother suffered from Seasonal Affected Disorder (when she was my age now post-hystorectomy) and got on this and hasn't had a depressions since. Any advice or resources to be pointed to in order to get well informed is appreciated. We're Irish w/ history of mental illness/depression and alcoholism (sober 20 yrs now); been thru more therapy than 10 people combined and unearthed trauma, went thru PTSD and Celexa/meds 7 yrs ago. Having a new round of anxiety, fear, depression, lethargy (in a BIG way) and it's affecting my new marriage. Please help.

Hi Q32
Unfortunately there are no easy answers here. Firstly, Lexapro and Norpramin are two very different drugs. Lexapro as you probably know, is an SSRI and works by effectively increasing the amount of serotonin in your brain. Norpramin is an older style tricyclic. I'm not sure exactly how it works but it is totally diff to Lexapro.
Some people can get off the SSRI's easily, some can't, so be careful. Speak to your Dr and if you do decide to make the change, then wean off Lexapro slowly. You will probably then need to have a few days between ceasing that and starting Norpramin.
If you are having problems with anxiety, fear, depression etc, then I would also consider seeing a psychologist. If you are newly married then you will be going through quite a lot of adjusting and it would help a lot if you could work through the issues with someone. I'm sure you know that already but there is no shame in needing more support. I wish you all the best :)
