I too shattered my L-1 and broke my L-2 in to 4 -5 pieces. Permanent nerve damage, torn, leaking discs at L4-5 and 5-6. My second surgery is mandatory. If I were you, I would skip the hydrocodone all together. Make an appointment with your surgeon or pain management specialist. If you feel this pain will only get worse, you need medication without any acetaminophen. Ask your doctor for an extended release longer lasting opiate medication. If there is any way at all to avoid additional surgery, do it. I sincerely hope you don't need more surgery, I'm pretty sure I know the type of pain you are in. Is the pain in the same area as the break? You may be experiencing hardware failure. Please make an appointment asap. I apologize for not answering your question. But my answer would be I'm not sure if you could get straight hydrocodone. There are members here that know much more about medications. They will read your question and have an answer for you. I wish you the best.
