3rd trimester prego, have been takin suboxone the whole time, need to know what to expect?

Hey ashamed,

The baby will have withdrawals if you are still taking by the time you give birth. The doctor's and staff will know from the behavior of the baby and may test for the buprenorphine. I think it is best to let your obstetrician know so they can be prepared to help the baby when it is born. Don't be ashamed, just take the appropriate steps to take care of yourself and the baby now. If you go into withdrawals before giving birth the baby will suffer too, so again it is critical that you let the obstetrician know what is going on.

Hello. I can only imagine the stress and worry you are feeling right now. I recommend telling your doctor and coming up with a safe plan for you and baby. It's hard to say if the baby will be affected by the subs but it's possible. I stopped taking subs in July after being on suboxone films for 9 months. I tapered down really low, skipped days and then stopped. The withdrawal symptoms were minimal and totally less then I expected. So while you may be scared to quit, it can be done! Now a couple things to think about: 1) are you prescribed the suboxone? 2) what will happen if you are tested and the suboxone (the bup.) shows up? If you are prescribed the subs it won't be as bad as if you are not. Because it's a controlled substance if you or the baby test ( +) then there could be problems with CPS. I hope that's not going to happen. Try and talk to your doctor about it. Good luck :)
