KatalohaHi so I am starting Peg intron and Rebetol therapy on Jan. 23, 2012 for 6 months. I have Geno type 2. I'm a vegetarian and the doctor believes (due to my life style) I may have contracted this through Vertical Transmission. My biological mother was a drug addict and her autopsy shows she died of liver failure/cirrhosis. Of course I'm scared about starting treatment but the doctor Edwin Montell says there is an 80% cure rate.. Any comments from anyone who has completed or going through this treatment? Thanks for your time and support.

I have never completed the treatment but I have been educating myself about HepC as much as I can. The fact that you have genotype 2 means you will have a greater rate of succes than a person with genotype 1 or 4. I have genotype 1. I decided to delay treatment in hopes of somthing better in the near future without all the terrible side effects. I don't want to even risk the horrible side effect that are possible as well as the damage that can be done to my body organs. You can google the treatment medication and find the list of possible side effects. Not everyone has horrible side effects but the ones who do sometimes can't even complete the treatment. I'm not trying to discourage you in any way just inform you. You may be among the people who get through the treatment unscathed.

How come the doctor didn't put you on one of the new drugs (telaprevar or broceprevar)? I'm very surprised he didn't. I been reading type 2 are treating for about 3 months with the new drug. Many type 1 are treating 6 months instead of 48 weeks with the new drugs. I guess tomorrow is the big day. Good luck with everything.

Thank you so much.. I will definitely look at that. I wish you a path to healing too. It is scary, but it has such a high cure rate I have to try. It feels weird havin this inside my body and not having control over it...
