Medications for Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension

Other names: TEPH

Thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension is caused by a blood clot that has travelled from where it originally formed, to the blood vessels of the lungs.  The thromboembolism restricts the blood flow through the pulmonary blood vessels and therefore causes an increase in the blood pressure of the pulmonary arteries. This increase in pressure means that the right side of the heart must work harder to pump blood, and may become enlarged and weakened over time.
