Pinta is an infection of the skin caused by the bacteria Treponemal carateum. Pinta presents first as flat, itchy, scaly plaques on exposed areas of the body. These progress over several months into thickened flat patches over the whole body. The final stage is characterised by atrophy, hyperpigmentation and depigmentation of the skin.
